Having had my first dog at age 6 and suffering the loss of that little bundle at 7, it very quickly became the norm for me to adopt any stray dog that came my way and to set about training each one in my own rudimentary way.
Dog training was not an option in my area when I was making career choices but I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to finally follow my passion. Both through my main business and through my volunteer work with USPCA.
And I am so excited that you are considering Empower to be part of your training journey with your dog.
At Empower, I work closely with you & your dog to build confidence, deep bonds & desired behaviours.
I am a Certified Trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT). In addition to having exceptionally high standards of training, it also means I use fear-free methods.
Some of the services I provide include:
At Empower, success for me is you & your dog engaging & achieving what we set out to do & having fun while we do it!

I am proud to have obtained a Distinction Grade.
To ensure ongoing learning, Members must undertake annual CPD.
I also currently have Level 3 Behavior with OCN

In a nutshell, it means not using physical pressure (ie forcing your dog into a position) to get them to do something or the use of punishment (ie hitting, shouting, shaking, yanking, choke chains & similar equipment) to stop them from doing unwanted behaviours.
+R is the use of something that your dog likes to reward them for doing a behaviour. Science tells us that the use of +R encourages dogs (& other animals) to repeat the behaviours in order to earn more. In training, food is frequently used as most dogs are strongly motivated by it.
Tiny but multiple amounts can be used in relatively short periods of time, thereby speeding up the learning process.
Mainly at my premises, your premises if required or online.
The main equipment & essentials that I recommend are:
- harness or collar.
- lead (no choke chains, slip leads etc). Retractable leads are not ideal for training.
- more treats than you think are necessary ie lots! Tiny ones that your dog loves. Eg. chicken, cheese, hotdogs, blueberries, dry food etc.
- poo bags.
- dress for the weather.
- patience.
